Northwest Airlines on Friday said e-mails containing phony ticket confirmation and enrollment information are being sent using the airline’s name.
The e-mails are suspected of containing a virus that infects the user’s computer when attachments are opened.
Northwest said the e-mails thank the recipient for using the new service “Buy flight ticket Online” on the airline’s website. It states an account has been set up and gives the e-mail user an account number and password. It also tells them how much their credit card has been charged. An attachment is supposed to be the invoice and ticket but instead contains a virus.
The e-mail also has spelling and grammatical errors, Northwest said.
