Carnival Cruise Lines is launching a cabin reclassification encompassing its entire fleet.

Under the reclassification, Carnival cabins will be categorized based on locations on the ship -- such as mid-ship, aft and forward -- as well as proximity to key public areas, Carnival said.

The Carnival Valor will be the first ship to feature the new categories, effective Aug. 18.

"The change more clearly defines our available stateroom categories based on location and features, and will enable guests to easily identify the category that best suits their specific needs and preferences," said Lynn Torrent, Carnival’s senior vice president of sales and guest services. "For travel agents, a greater variety of cabin categories and smaller pricing gap between categories will create additional up-selling opportunities."

Cabin assignments and pricing on existing reservations will not be affected.

The rest of the fleet will receive cabin reclassifications by the end of 2008.

A webinar explaining the new categories is available on Carnival’s website
