Delta Shuttle customers will have the option of traveling in first class, starting Dec. 1.
The airline, which is reconfiguring its MD-88 Shuttle fleet to offer two classes of service, will offer 14 seats in first and 128 in coach. Delta's open-seating policy on Shuttle service will remain in place for both classes.
Delta said customers traveling in the first-class cabin will get an expanded selection of snack options, a bigger selection of complimentary cocktails and wider, more comfortable seats.
A search on Delta.com for a midweek flight in January revealed that a first-class ticket from New York to Washington was $679. The coach fare was $164.
SkyMiles Medallion members will be eligible for complimentary upgrades on Delta Shuttle flights, said the airline.
Delta Shuttle offers 30 flights daily between New York LaGuardia Airport and Boston, and 30 flights daily between LaGuardia and Washington Reagan National.
Competitor US Airways already offers first-class seating on its shuttle service.
