Tropical Storm Paloma, the 16th named storm of the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season, formed on Nov. 6 near the border of Honduras and Nicaragua.

By Friday, Paloma was expected to strengthen into a hurricane that could threaten the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Cuba, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The official end of the hurricane season is Nov. 30.
