Forums Backstage By Glen Thompson / November 09, 1999 Share 1 -- Having been given the assignment of staff photographer for the ASTA congress, I spent nearly all of the two-and-a-half-hour awards ceremony backstage at Strasbourg's Rhenus Hall. Not quite staff, not quite spectator, I was able to mill around with the production people while waiting to get my shots.First of all, I got to hear all the dirt. For instance, due to massive lost luggage problems, one of Peabo Bryson's back-up singers arrived at the venue without so much as a toothbrush to her name. She went onstage in a borrowed dress.I also got a kick out of meeting the award winners right after they stepped off the stage. Agent of the Year Jeanne Epping beamed with pride and pleasure, graciously posing for picture after picture. Her husband, Richard, ducked backstage from time to time for a quick smoke, so I got to chat with him.I heard a sort of muted version of Peabo's show; but then again, I was right in his path when he finished his act.
