Bus driver charged in tour passenger's death

By Gay Nagle Myers

British Virgin Islands police arrested and charged a tour bus driver in the fatal crash that killed a Caribbean Princess cruise passenger in Tortola on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old driver from Tortola was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, according to police reports.

The 24-year-old crash victim was one of 20 cruise ship passengers on the Tropical Hike and Beach shore excursion, which has since been suspended by Princess Cruises

The crash occurred as the bright green tour bus was descending a steep hill on Tortola when it reportedly veered off the road, crashed into a rocky embankment and flipped on its side.

Six passengers on the bus were treated at a hospital and later released.

Police are expected to release their findings when the investigation wraps up, according to the BVI Beacon newspaper.
