Insight Caribbean Insight Not your everyday destination wedding By Gay Nagle Myers / December 05, 2017 Share 1 Betty and Royal Brown, enjoying a snack while tying the knot at Sunset at the Palms in Negril, Jamaica. -- Sunset at the Palms, an all-inclusive, adults-only resort in Negril, Jamaica, serves as the locale for more than 150 destination weddings a year. But it was one recent ceremony in particular that stands out from all the others. The resort took a creative approach that generated not only coverage on social media but also interest and inquiries for future wedding business. The wedding involved a daytime ceremony, somewhat unusual wedding attire and a garden setting during which the bride and groom ate a good deal of the greenery. It was the Nov. 25 marriage of two of the property's most recent hires, Betty and Royal Brown, official members of the resort's groundskeeping crew. The two goats — I kid you not — met on the job earlier this year and, after a whirlwind romance, officially tied the knot during a daytime garden ceremony attended by their co-workers and resort guests.Betty, the more outgoing and extroverted of the couple, had attended many of the wedding ceremonies at the resort since her arrival last spring. Her sparkling personality eventually led to her becoming the official hostess at Sunset at the Palms.Over the summer she was joined by Royal Brown, a young billy goat, somewhat more reserved and shy than Betty. He did not take to the spotlight, but he did take to Betty, proving that opposites do attract. After a brief courtship, the couple was engaged in mid-October.Both the bride and groom celebrated their nuptials in style, just as human couples do at the resort each year. The event took place among the flowers, trees and other foliage for which the resort is known and which the bridal couple nibbled on mid-ceremony.Betty wore a flowing veil for her "Royal wedding," and the groom donned a custom-designed tuxedo jacket and bow tie. They skipped the traditional honeymoon, preferring to stay on site at the resort, not in one of the 85 treehouse-style guestrooms but somewhere private on the grounds. The pair has been spending a lot of time together ever since, and resort staff did notice that Betty had gained a bit of weight prior to the nuptials, so either she's been working overtime on the grounds or a kid may soon be on its way.
