Photo Credit: Bruce Bishop -- The company name, website, business model and focus is LuxuryExperiencesTurksandCaicos.com, founded last July by Canadian-born Val Kalliecharan, who is of Trinidadian heritage, and his wife Susan.The two were on vacation in the Turks and Caicos more then 10 years ago when they decided there was a need for personalized visitor services, so they moved to Providenciales and in 2008 started Turks & Caicos Reservations, primarily handling hotel bookings for consumers."Two years ago we decided to form a brand new, full-service destination management company to work exclusively with travel advisers to serve their luxury clients," Kalliecharan said. "We knew the destination well and had many contacts in the hospitality industry here, but we also knew there was a lot we didn't know about this aspect of the business."That's where Waterstone Marketing, a New Jersey-based sales, marketing and communication company specializing in the promotion of luxury hotels, villas, yachts and destination management companies, came into the picture.Waterstone represents LuxuryExperiences and recently hosted a series of meetings to introduce the Kalliecharans and their company to a number of luxury travel advisors in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area."We were well received, and the one-on-one meetings really helped us to get our message to the top advisers who did not already know us or work with us," Kalliecharan said. Luxury Experiences pays 15% commission on prebooked services and on any additional activities booked by clients during their stay."Our hook is planning and curating the perfect itinerary from private, expedited, airport meet-and-greet service and transfers to hotel and villa bookings; private island tours; activities; vehicle rentals and reservations at hard-to-get-into restaurants," he said."We're focused on one thing: collaborating with travel advisers to engineer a customized itinerary that is meticulously planned from arrival to departure, and executed."He reported that business is "very good so far, and we're seeing a huge demand for villas. The destination has a big inventory of luxury hotels and villas, so we've got lots of options available." Luxury Experiences does not handle large groups or weddings.The couple acknowledged that it's a balancing act between work and home and their two teenage boys. Kalliecharan plays the steel drum as a hobby in his spare time."Our office is in our home," said Susan Kalliecharan. "We have a small staff here and one employee in Boston who manages inventory, but we are thrilled with the growth of the business and love working with our travel advisers."As for expansion plans, Val Kalliecharan said "the perfect trifecta for Luxury Experiences would be to offer what we offer in Turks and Caicos in St. Barts and Anguilla as well. That's down the road a bit for now."
