The first of LIAT's new 68-seat ATR-600 aircraft arrived at the VC Bird Airport in Antigua on June 16.

The new aircraft is the first of eight to be delivered as part of the regional carrier's upgrade of its aging fleet. Six will come on board this year, and the last two in 2014.

The plane will be based in Antigua and initially will operate flights to Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guadeloupe and St. Vincent.

LIAT serves 21 destinations in the Caribbean.
