AA flight attendants stage simulated strikes

Unionized flight attendants at American Airlines held mock strikes Wednesday at airports across the U.S., including Chicago O’Hare, Los Angeles, New York LaGuardia, Washington Reagan National and San Francisco.

Flight attendants picketed and wore red discs that read "Got Guts." The red disc signified to passengers that the flight would not be operating if there were a real strike, according to the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, the AA flight attendants’ union.

The flight attendants are drawing attention to stalled negotiations with management. According to APFA, the flight attendants and management have scheduled additional contract negotiations through January.

If no agreement is reached, APFA said it would ask the National Mediation Board to allow APFA to move to a 30-day cooling-off period, a final step before a possible strike.

APFA President Laura Glading called Wednesday’s mock strikes "a symbolic demonstration to show management that flight attendants are willing and able to do whatever is necessary to get a fair contract."

APFA says that AA flight attendants helped the airline avoid bankruptcy after 9/11 by accepting wage cuts, but that upper management has continued to rake in bonuses even when the airline loses money.

Flight attendants want a pay increase, but airline management has said that any benefit must be offset by a concession of equal value, according to APFA.

American Airlines has maintained that its flight attendants are among the highest-paid flight attendants in the U.S.

At #8: That makes no sense as no one gains anything. The result would be everything costs more equally across the board, and everyone would pay more in sales and income tax. The net result would be negative. Everytime there is percentage pay increase, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Do the math.

ATTN: AA FLT Crew We ALL had a pay cut at AA after 9/11. We (your non union co-workers) do more work, less staff, while you (flight crew) work less and less and still have the same amount of crew on-board. Go get another job!

Does anyone every think about the fact that if an airline goes out of business because it is no longer profitable that everyone, including the management and all the cabin crew, will lose their jobs? I'm not saying they're always right, but executives, of airlines and otherwise, are paid the "big bucks" because they are responsible for keeping an entire company profitable while other employees are busy worrying about themselves and disrupting their customers by striking.

Jobs are a priviledge not a right and if the flight attendansts are not happy get another job. Stop worrying about what other make and just look at yourself. Yes, flight attendants do less than ever before so maybe what they are making is good enough.

Kudos to the above. But let's remember, the VP's of AA are still raking in the money while the "little guys" are still working without pay increases for years. Too bad top management cannot take a pay cut, it would help everyone else. Typical Airlines.... charge all passengers for everything, but cannot give the money to the actual workers. !
