Caribbean Princess cruises canceled to fix ship

Princess Cruises cut short one cruise on the Caribbean Princess and has canceled the next two seven-day sailings from San Juan due to a propulsion problem with the ship’s motor.

The ship sailed back to San Juan on March 14. The interrupted cruise departed San Juan on March 11 and was scheduled to return on March 18.

“Caribbean Princess experienced a problem with the port propulsion motor which necessitated the ship returning to San Juan yesterday to evaluate the situation. After further review by technical experts, we have confirmed thefull extent of the damage to the motor,” said Princess.

“We now know the time and work required to make the repairs and we regret that we need to cancel the next two voyages, departing March 18 and 25.

Princess apologized to affected passengers.

Passengers booked on the canceled sailings will receive a full refund as well as a 25% credit toward a future cruise. Those who booked their flights through Princess will receive a full refund or a future air credit, based on the type of air purchased.

Passengers who booked their air independently can submit their air change fees to Princess for a refund. The line will also refund any transfers, pre- and post-hotel packages and governPassengers on the interrupted cruise will receive a full refund, as well as a 25% cruise credit of their fare paid, said Princess.

“Princess is making air arrangements for these passengers, as well as transfers to the airport. Passengers have been departing the vessel over the last couple of days and will continue to do so through the weekend. They are staying onboard until their scheduled flights home,” said a spokeswoman for the line.

The next Caribbean Princess cruise is scheduled to depart from San Juan on April 1. Information was not immediately available about refunds to passengers on the shortened sailing.
