Carnival offers agent-appreciation bonus

By Tom Stieghorst
Carnival Cruise Lines said it will offer bonus commissions to travel agents May 1 to 15 on all FIT bookings as a way of recognizing their recent support.

The amounts will be $15 for a three- five-day cruise and $25 for cruises six days and longer.

“Our team has been working very closely with travel agents across the country and truly appreciates their patience and understanding, in particular with longer-than-usual wait times within our call centers," said Joni Rein, vice president of worldwide sales at Carnival.

Agents say call centers are sluggish because of the number of cruises being rebooked by clients at lower fares in the wake of the Carnival Triumph incident.

Carnival said the special-appreciation bonus commission is available to U.S. travel agents only, applies to new FIT bookings and is not applicable to complimentary cruises.
