Carnival raises $1.5M for Philippines aid

By Tom Stieghorst
Carnival Corp., along with the Miami Heat basketball team, will send more than $1.5 million in aid to Philippine victims of Typhoon Haiyan, surpassing their initial $1 million pledge by 50%.

Direct relief will total $250,000 and Carnival will donate $500,000 to Unicef. Another $300,000 will go to Save the Children, with part of that coming from P&O Cruises Australia.

A $150,000 donation to the International Red Cross includes contributions from P&O Cruises UK, Princess Cruises and Cunard Line.

Princess has also donated $50,000 to the International Medical Corps.

Carnival Corp.'s individual brands are also providing nearly $350,000 in funds, including $100,000 grants each from Carnival Cruise Lines and the Costa Group, to support Filipino employees and families impacted by the typhoon.
