Carnival to sweeten group promotions

By Tom Stieghorst
Carnival Cruise Lines plans to improve the terms of its group promotions in August in response to feedback from its Carnival Conversations program.

Carnival said travel agents will earn a tour conductor credit for every 10 sales in a group, instead of the current 15. It also said a promotion is in effect for the month featuring attractive group rates for virtually every sailing between Dec. 1 and May 31, 2014.

Also, Carnival is expanding the hours of its group desk to the weekend, opening Saturday and Sunday in August from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We know August is a big month for travel agents to book groups, so we wanted to show our support," said Joni Rein, Carnival's vice president of worldwide sales.

Carnival said there are some restrictions and agents should check the GoCCL website for complete terms.

  • Consumer media discover that travel agents do exist

"Contrary to some thoughts, travel agents do exist ... We are usually able to get clients better prices, and we know we can see that clients have better experiences. And as our personal motto is: Our Service Travels With You."
