Celebrity Cruises is trying to pinpoint the cause of a norovirus outbreak on the Celebrity Mercury's last sailing.

The norovirus infected more than 400 passengers and delayed the ship's departure this weekend from Charleston, S.C.

"In an abundance of caution," Celebrity said it had postponed the ship’s departure from Charleston on Feb 27 in order to perform additional sanitizing of the Mercury.

The Merucry was originally scheduled to leave at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, and instead departed at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Celebrity said the enhanced cleaning of the ship was done in close coordination with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

About 22% of the passengers on the Mercury’s last sailing, 411 of 1,833, were affected by the gastrointestinal norovirus, according the the CDC.
