Cunard and P&O Cruises make leadership changes

Cunard Line announced a management shake-up that will result in the departure of Cunard president and managing director Peter Shanks and P&O Cruises managing director Carol Marlow.

The changes take effect at the end of September.

David Dingle will formally assume the CEO title at both Cunard and P&O. The job of Cunard president and managing director will be eliminated.

Dingle's current title is CEO of Carnival UK. He became managing director of Carnival UK in 2003 with Carnival Corp.'s acquisition of P&O Princess Cruises. He became CEO of Carnival UK in 2007.

Senior managers at Cunard will report to Gerard Tempest, its chief commercial officer.

Tempest said a new insight director and new marketing directors for both Cunard and P&O will be named shortly.

“North America is a very important market for Cunard, and the recent strengthening of our management team there through the appointment of Stanley Birge as vice president, reporting to David Rousham (international development director), demonstrates our deep and longstanding commitment to the North American market,” Tempest said.

Shanks joined Cunard in 2002, overseeing launches of its Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth ships.

Marlow's 16-year career with the company begin in 1997 and included leadership jobs at Cunard, Princess Cruises UK, Swan Hellenic and P&O Cruises.
