Princess Cruises will mark the anniversary of America's independence by displaying an original copy of the Declaration of Independence on its ships docking in Juneau early next month.

Kirby Day, the company's Alaska manager, said the copy will be exhibited for about two hours each on various ships from July 1 through July 8.

The copy belongs to the nonprofit organization Declare Yourself, founded by television producer Norman Lear.

Princess said the document is one of an estimated 200 copies made for distribution to the colonies and England's King George in 1776.

The document, one of 25 remaining, was found inside a frame behind a painting that was bought for $4 by a Pennsylvania man. Lear and his wife, Lyn, bought the copy for $8.14 million.

The document will be shown aboard the Diamond Princess and the Star Princess on July 1; the Coral Princess on July 2; the Island Princess on July 3; the Pacific Princess and the Golden Princess on July 6; and the Sapphire Princess and the Sea Princess on July 8.
