The FBI has joined the search for the 31-year-old chef from Italy who went missing on Thanksgiving Day from the Coral Princess.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the FBI joined the international investigation this week into the disappearance of the Princess Cruises employee at the request of the Italian Consulate in Los Angeles.

Princess said that on the morning of Nov. 26, the line discovered that a man who worked as a first cook was not onboard after the ship docked in Cartagena, Colombia.

The line now presumes that he went overboard as the ship was en route to Cartagena, but this has not been confirmed. The Coral Princess left Fort Lauderdale on Nov. 22 on a 15-day Panama Canal cruise, which ended yesterday in Los Angeles.

A review of the ship's cameras and security system records did not reveal any further information regarding his whereabouts, Princess said, adding that during its onboard investigation, it was reported he had been seen by another crew member early that morning. Princess said that a life ring was found missing from the aft of the ship but added, "We are uncertain as to the significance of this."

The ship's rescue craft searched the waters in the area where the crew member was last reported seen.

The ship left Los Angeles yesterday on its next cruise, an eastbound back through the Panama Canal.
