Pier Luigi FoschiPier Luigi Foschi, who retired in July as CEO of Costa Cruises, was named to a new job overseeing Carnival Corp.'s strategy in the rapidly expanding Asia market.

Foschi will become chairman and CEO of a new unit, Carnival Asia, in addition to his role as chairman of Costa Cruises.

His responsibilities include establishing Carnival Corp.'s new corporate offices in Singapore and providing help to the company's various operating units in pursuing their Asian strategies.

Currently, Carnival Corp.'s Asia operations include two Costa ships based in China and Singapore and a Princess ship scheduled to launch a series of voyages from Japan next spring.

Foschi lived in Hong Kong and Singapore for many years in a previous career with Otis Elevator.

Costa was designated in 2006 as the Carnival Corp. brand that would develop the Chinese market.

In a statement, Carnival Corp. Chairman Micky Arison said his company needed to increase its presence in Asia.

"Pier is the ideal candidate for this new role, and considering that his responsibilities at Costa are winding down, we are delighted that he agreed to oversee our growth strategies in this emerging cruise region," Arison said.
