Michael Mierzwa has been named director for the Port of Galveston in Texas, effective Feb. 16.

He replaces Steven Cernak, who recently was named director of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.

Mierzwa is a 29-year veteran of the United States Coast Guard, retiring with the rank of captain in 1998.

In 2000, Mierzwa was hired by the Port of Galveston as manager of the cruise ship terminal. In 2002 he was promoted to port director of facilities and operations. He was named deputy port director in 2005.
