Hurricane Jova, a Category 3 storm, closed in on Mexico’s Pacific coast early Tuesday and is expected to make landfall near Manzanillo later in the day, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Cruise ships affected by the storm include the Carnival Spirit, which calls in La Paz today instead of Cabo San Lucas, and in Cabo San Lucas on Wednesday and Puerto Vallarta on Thursday unless Jova disrupts those calls.

The ship returns to Los Angeles on Sunday.

Holland America’s Oosterdam will skip its calls in Puerto Vallarta Tuesday and Wednesday and substitute a day at sea and a port call in La Paz.

The Disney Wonder will call in Cabo San Lucas on Tuesday instead of Puerto Vallarta.

Employees at resorts along a 100-mile stretch of coast south of Puerto Vallarta to south of Manzanillo dragged in beach furniture, taped up windows and stocked up on food and water.

Coastal and inland flooding is predicted when Jova does make landfall.
