The Jewel of the Seas called in Visby, Sweden, on Tuesday instead of Stockholm, due to mechanical issues with its propulsion system.

Royal Caribbean International said that the ship experienced a mechanical issue with one of the four hydraulic motors on the starboard propulsion system.

The line carried out preliminary repairs on Saturday but is awaiting a replacement hydraulic motor, and will conduct repairs while in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday and Friday.

Royal Caribbean said that until the repairs are completed, the ship will sail at a slightly reduced speed. The ship is in Helsinki on Wednesday and expects repairs to go as planned in St. Petersburg, so Royal Caribbean does do not anticipate any additional alterations to the scheduled itinerary.

The line said that "as a gesture of goodwill, and to thank guests for their cooperation," it has provided each stateroom with an onboard credit, which varied from $150 to $350 per cabin, depending on cabin category.
