NCL to double winter capacity out of NYC

Norwegian Cruise Line will homeport two ships in New York during the winter for the first time since 2006.

The 2,376-passenger Norwegian Jewel will join the 2,380-passenger Norwegian Gem during the winter of 2010-2011.  Both ships will sail a series of 10-day eastern Caribbean cruises. It is the Jewel’s first time homeporting in New York.

"By bringing Norwegian Jewel to New York, along with our newest ship, Norwegian Gem, we are giving guests more choice and more ways to escape the cold Northeast winters without the hassle of air travel," Kevin Sheehan, NCL’s president and CEO, said in a statement.

Also in 2010-2011, NCL's winter deployment will include continued year-round service in Europe with the Norwegian Jade sailing from Barcelona; continued cruises out of New Orleans on the Norwegian Spirit; and Mexican Riviera cruises on the Norwegian Star sailing from Los Angeles.
