Norwegian Cruise Line will base the 4,000-passenger Norwegian Getaway year-round in Miami when the ship enters service in the spring of 2014.

CEO Kevin Sheehan made the announcement on Tuesday in Miami, onboard the Norwegian Spirit.

“Miami has been the home of this company since our beginning in 1966. Therefore, we are so excited to bring one of our two new Breakaway-class ships here to Miami to homeport year-round,” he said.

Norwegian currently has three ships sailing seasonally from Miami: the Norwegian Epic, Sky and Pearl.

The Getaway is under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. Its sister ship, the Breakaway, will begin sailing year-round from New York when it launches in May 2013.
