Norwegian and Princess ships sailing for NYC

By Jerry Limone
The Norwegian Gem and the Caribbean Princess are sailing to New York, anticipating that the ships will be able to dock at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on Friday morning.

Both ships had headed to Boston because New York cruise ports were closed due to Hurricane Sandy.

Although the Manhattan Cruise Terminal remained closed on Thursday, Princess Cruises said it was “optimistic that the channel leading to our terminal will be open, allowing us to disembark passengers on Friday at Pier 88 in Manhattan.”

The Coast Guard advised Princess that the process of surveying the New York Harbor has begun and is expected to be completed on Thursday, the cruise line said.

Norwegian Gem customers scheduled to sail on the ship’s Oct. 29 cruise may depart Friday afternoon on an anticipated five-day cruise that spends two days in Bermuda.

As a result of the shortened itinerary, Gem customers will receive a prorated refund in the form of an onboard credit for the missed days, based on cruise fare paid. The remaining portion will be refunded if not used onboard.
