Norwegian Cruise Line unveils hull art for the Breakaway

Breakaway hullNorwegian Cruise Line's newbuild to be homeported in New York will feature a hull painted with a New York skyline, the Statue of Liberty and a stylized solar system.

Norwegian on Tuesday unveiled the design by pop artist Peter Max. It will decorate the 4,000-passenger Norwegian Breakaway, which is scheduled to arrive in New York next May for a summer of seven-day cruises to Bermuda.

For over a decade, Norwegian has distinguished its ships by colorful hull paintings that relate to the name of the ship or the destination with which it is associated.

Norwegian said this is the first time it has commissioned such art from a well-known artist like Max.

“Norwegian Breakaway is New York’s ship, and this colorful artwork by Peter Max will make the ship an instant icon,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s CEO.

The art, which will be signed, covers about 40,000 square feet on the sides of the ship, Norwegian said.
