Overboard Silversea passenger rescued

By Johanna Jainchill

The Coast Guard rescued a 62-year-old man who went overboard from a Silversea Cruises ship on Sunday, about 20 miles east of Miami.

Crew members on the Silversea Shadow located the passenger, and a Coast Guard helicopter lowered a rescue swimmer who helped the man into one of the cruise ship’s rescue boats, according to a Coast Guard statement.

The Silver Shadow was returning to Fort Lauderdale when the ship reported an overboard passenger to the Miami Coast Guard around 3 a.m. Sunday. The vessel located the passenger around 7:45 a.m., the Coast Guard said.

A video of the rescue was posted at the Coast Guard website.
