Princess Cruises suspends BVI excursion after bus crash

By Gay Nagle Myers

Princess Cruises suspended its Tropical Hike and Beach shore excursion in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, until investigations are completed surrounding the tour bus accident that killed a Caribbean Princess passenger on Tuesday.

The bus was carrying a group of 20 passengers when it hit an embankment and rolled off the road, killing a 24-year-old man from Rochester, N.Y., who was traveling with his parents. Two others were seriously injured and remain hospitalized in Tortola.

In a statement, the BVI Tourist Board said it had deployed the coordinator of its Visitor Support Service program to assist the family.

At a Feb. 4 meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and the Hotel Association, Minister of Communications and Works Julian Fraser said, "We must continue to develop and operate our road network to ensure safety, convenience and access."

The Caribbean Princess is on a seven-day cruise from San Juan calling at St. Thomas, Tortola, Antigua, St. Lucia and Barbados.
