Safari Spirit declared a total loss after fire

By Donna Tunney
American Safari Cruises said that its Safari Spirit yacht is a total loss after an onboard fire severely damaged the 12-passenger vessel April 27.

The yacht, which was docked at Fishermen’s Terminal in Seattle undergoing general maintenance, was to begin its Alaska season May 11.

A company spokeswoman said booked passengers were being accommodated on other ships in the fleet.

No passengers were on the vessel when the fire broke out. Company CEO Dan Blanchard and an engineer were onboard, but escaped without injury.
