Tour bus with cruise passengers robbed in St. Lucia

By Gay Nagle Myers
Three masked gunmen held up a tour bus in St. Lucia on April 12. The tourists were passengers on the Celebrity Eclipse cruise ship.

Jewelry and money were stolen, but there were no injuries.

The 55 tourists were on a cruise line-sponsored shore excursion visiting the Botanical Gardens in Soufriere. Two crew members from the Eclipse also were on the bus.

"We are thankful that none of our guests was injured in this unfortunate event, and we will continue to provide them with any support that they need," Celebrity Cruises said in a statement.
St. Lucia Tourism Minister Lorne Theophilus called it "an unfortunate and horrible scenario."

Matthew Beaubrun, chairman of the St. Lucia Tourist Board, said, "This is a rare incident. We are not taking it lightly and and are responding at the highest level. The minister has been in touch with the prime minister."

The Eclipse is on a 14-day Caribbean cruise that departed Fort Lauderdale on April 6 and will return there on April 20.
