Cruise Viking orders two more ocean ships By Tom Stieghorst / April 18, 2017 Share 1 -- Viking Ocean Cruises has ordered two more ships from Fincantieri, which would bring the line's fleet to eight when they are delivered in 2021 and 2022.The ships have the same design as the first six Viking ships, with a gross tonnage of 47,000 and capacity for 930 passengers at double occupancy.Viking said there is an option for an additional two ships."These additional ships are needed to meet the demand we are experiencing," Viking chairman Torstein Hagen said. "Once only known for being the leading river cruise line, we are now equally known for upscale, inclusive ocean cruise experiences."The final contracts will become effective upon the fulfillment of financing and other customary closing conditions, the two companies said. Other financial terms, including price, weren’t disclosed.
