Vision of the Seas passengers told to stay onboard in Buzios

By Johanna Jainchill

Passengers on Royal Caribbean International’s Vision of the Seas were not allowed to disembark in Buzios, Brazil, due to an outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness onboard.

Royal Caribbean said that the ship remained docked until Thursday morning while local authorities assessed the situation. The Vision was expected to sail Thursday.

The cruise began its trip from Sao Paulo on March 1.

Royal Caribbean said that as part of its standard notification system, the line informed the local health authorities in Buzios about the ill passengers.

"In an abundance of caution," Royal Caribbean said that the port requested people not leave the ship.

The Vision ends its four-day sailing in Sao Paulo on March 5 and made a port call in Ilhabela, Brazil.
