Voyages to Antiquity cancels Asia winter season

By Tom Stieghorst
Voyages to Antiquity said poor weather conditions encountered in its first season in Asia have led it to cancel the 2013-14 season of cruises there.

The cruise line said that between mid-December and mid-February, its ship was buffeted by winds of up to Force 10 on the Beaufort scale as well as sea swells of between 18 and 33 feet and torrential rains.

"After much deliberation, and consideration of feedback from our guests and ship operations team, these factors have persuaded us to postpone our upcoming winter 2013-2014 program," Voyages of Antiquity said in a statement on its website.

"Instead, we will look toward a 2014-2015 collection with customized itineraries designed to maximize the cruise-tour experience, while avoiding areas most vulnerable to heavy seas and changeable weather patterns."
