Windstar headed back to Tahiti

By Tom Stieghorst

Windstar Cruises will return to Tahiti next year for the first time in nearly a decade.

The 148-passenger Windstar Spirit will offer 28 voyages in French Polynesia starting in May 2014. In November, it will return to Panama and Costa Rica.

"Windstar's return to Tahiti has always been the number one request from our guests and travel partners," said Windstar CEO Hans Birkholz.

The line last offered cruises in the South Pacific in 2005.

Bookings for the Tahiti cruises open in mid-March. This summer, Windstar Spirit is scheduled to sail in Turkey and Greece.

Correction: Windstar was last in the South Pacific in 2005, not 2002 as previously reported.
