This expedition ship was built in 1982 as the Midnatsol for Norwegian Coastal Express service. She was enlarged seven years later.
For a short time she became the Lyngen before being taken on by Lindblad and completely rebuilt from a passenger-cargo long-distance ferry to a highly sophisticated expedition ship in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, into the National Geographic Explorer. She re-entered service in June 2008.
