Airport's duty-free shop is voted world's best June 29, 1999 Share 1 -- DALLAS -- The International Airline Passengers Association voted the Dubai Duty Free complex at Dubai Airport the world's best duty-free shop. The Dallas-based association gave the award to Dubai for its enormous range of goods, quality of service and low prices. Under one roof, travelers will find a wealth of wares, from the latest in high-tech products -- video recorders and cameras; stereos, and radios -- to haute-couture accessories, jewelry and watches of every make. The airport also offers shoppers an extra bonus: the Dubai Duty Free raffle, which takes place in Dubai every month and rewards the winner with a luxury car, including delivery to any place in the world. Each month a maximum of 1,000 tickets are sold.Dubai Duty Free is part of a decade-long airport expansion program that calls for the shopping section to quadruple in size to 9,000 square meters by the end of next year. Part of the airport's new $540 million facility is already open. It features a departure terminal, which by September will house all airlines operating from 213 passenger-processing check-in desks.
