All-suite hotel set for debut in Riviera Maya By Jorge Sidron / December 28, 2001 Share 1 -- RIVIERA MAYA, Mexico -- Presidente Inter-Continental Hotels and Resorts is poised to open an upscale, 90-room hotel on the shores of this resort destination. Built at a cost of $40 million, the Presidente Inter-Continental Paraiso de la Bonita is scheduled to open Jan. 14 on 14 acres of beachfront property on Petenpich Bay.The hotel will consist of 82 one-bedroom suites, seven two-bedroom suites and one presidential suite with two bedrooms and a dining room. The presidential suite also will feature butler service.All units will be decorated with an eclectic mix of furnishings and materials from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, India, the Mediterranean and Mexico.Ground-floor suites will feature private plunge pools in a garden courtyard, and second-floor units will come with a choice of hammocks or lounge chairs.All rooms will feature separate living areas, large bathrooms with Bvlgari bath products, dual-line phones with computer hookups, CD and DVD players and a stocked bar.One of the hotel's major selling points will be a 17,222-square-foot spa offering thalassotherapy treatments that incorporate heated seawater and algae. The spa also will offer more traditional massage and beauty treatments.The spa complex will include a Jacuzzi, steam and dry saunas and a salon.Dining choices will include the "casually elegant" La Canoa restaurant, specializing in seafood, and a more casual open-air restaurant that will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.Paraiso de la Bonita also will feature a wine cellar stocked with more than 4,000 bottles.Guests will be able to work off their meals at the fitness center, the 130-foot infinity pool, the tennis court and the nature path designed for walking or jogging. Golf is available nearby.For business travelers, the resort will feature a function room that can be divided into two separate spaces.A library near the reception area will include a bar as well as books, magazines, games, CDs, DVDs and Internet access.Rates at the resort will start at $410 per night, single or double, for a one-bedroom suite from Jan. 14 through April 30.Prices will rise to $550 per night from May 1 through the end of the year.Two-bedroom suites cost $1,250 per night, and the presidential suite costs $2,250 per night.
