Barbados running incentives ads By Henry Magenheim / June 13, 2002 Share 1 -- NEW YORK -- The Barbados Tourism Authority introduced Best of Barbados air and land travel incentives, including several for newlyweds, all applicable to travel through Dec. 14. To qualify, clients must stay at least seven nights. Some $2 million worth of consumer print and broadcast ads were due to break this month along the eastern seaboard, some identifying local travel agents, according to Bill Sivermintz, the BTA's vice president of marketing for the Americas. Also, on June 10, a series of agent seminars were launched in Philadelphia, he said.Ads and literature will suggest that the public ask a travel agent to make the arrangements, he noted. "The aim is to help agents survive and prosper in light of the challenge of the elimination of airline commissions," Silvermintz said.To qualify for air fare and other discounts, clients must buy, from their agent, a seven- or-more-nights, air-inclusive package offered by one of the 39 wholesalers signing on to the Best of Barbados program. More operators may be added. Clients also must stay at one of the more than 35 participating hotels. Those departing from the eastern seaboard are eligible for a BTA air credit of 35% off the lowest promotional air fare. This means that should a further airline-induced reduction come along, clients would get an additional 35% off, Silvermintz said. Most operators will have incorporated this discount into their package price, Silvermintz said, along with the first free hotel night. From interior U.S. cities, clients qualify for an air savings of at least $200.The authority set aside $1 million to pay for air subsidies, Silvermintz noted.Other Best of Barbados components are free daily breakfasts, a room upgrade at inclusive resorts, two-for-one discounts on ground activities and one day's free car rental when three days are paid.Honeymooners get the same benefits plus the first night free, breakfast in bed, champagne and a $50 voucher redeemable at participating duty-free shops.Book it: Best of BarbadosNEW YORK -- Participating operators in the Best of Barbados program include:Access Vacations, Air Jamaica Vacations, Airtours Vacations, Alken Tours, American Airlines Vacations, American Tours International, Apple Vacations and ATA Leisure Group. Also: Atlas Vacations, Brendan Tours, Caribbean Travel Specialists, Caribbean Vacation Network, Classic Custom Vacations, Festa Holidays, Funjet Vacations, Gogo Worldwide Vacations, Happy Tours Vacations and Horizon Tours. Also: Inter Island Tours, Island Inns, Island Resort Tours, Journeys Unlimited, Maduro Travel, Magic Carpet Vacations, Rockwell Tours, Rosenbluth Vacations, Sunburst Holidays and TNT Vacations. Also: Tour Host International, Tourico Holiday Flights, Tradewinds Tours, Travel Center Tours, Travel Impressions, Travel Jam, US Airways Vacations and Wyder Tours. In addition, agents may call the BTA at (800) 221-9831 or visit its Web site at www.barbados.org.
