Branson Convention Center, Hotel to Delay Openings Until Late April By Henry Magenheim / February 03, 1997 Share 1 -- Reed Travel FeaturesBRANSON, Mo. -- This city's first upscale, conference-oriented hotel, the 301-room Chateau on the Lake, and its adjoining, 40,000-square-foot Branson Convention Center will open in late April and not on March 1, as originally announced last year. The hotel will not be accepting conventions until June to assure that all facilities and services will be available, according to Cheryl McGee, marketing manager for John Q. Hammons Hotels of Springfield, Mo., owner and operator of the property. No chain affiliations are planned, she said."Branson has an upscale hotel now" is the message from the sales force, she said, and that team expects to lure large and medium-size conferences and corporate retreats, many of which bypass Branson because a large, full-service meetings hotel was unavailable here.Chateau on the Lake's conference center will have 18 meeting rooms, three boardrooms and 15 small meeting rooms. The center will be able to handle up to 4,600 for a reception, 2,690 for a banquet, 1,900 for a classroom presentation and 3,590 for a theatrical event.Rack rates on opening day will be $159 a night, single; $179, double.Although conferences will be a mainstay, families also will be sought, McGee said. There will be a year-around supervised activities program for younger and older children on the hotel's lower level as well as field trips to Silver Dollar City.Honeymoon and other packages also are planned.Teina Hammons, sales manager for tour and travel, most recently served with the Showboat Branson Belle operation. The hotel is outside of town and overlooks Table Rock Lake and is near the intersection of Routes 165 and 265.The new property also will have two restaurants, a marina, a pool and on-site tennis. Golf will be available at three area courses. The hotel will have an atrium lobby, a pool and an entertainment lounge. In Missouri, Hammons owns and operates the Capitol Plaza, Jefferson City; Embassy Suites, Kansas City Airport, and the Holiday Inn, Springfield. It has holdings in other states as well. For additional information, call (417) 334-1161 or (888) 333-LAKE.
