NEW YORK -- Three key messages emerged from a recent strategy
session hosted by the Caribbean Tourism Organization for tourism
officials.
The brainstorming session was designed to formulate ideas to
jump-start travel.
The central themes were:
• One Caribbean for One America: Special hotel packages,
discounted rates and island promotions.
• Caribbean Cares: Charity events and free stays for
firefighters and police and rescue officers.
• Travel Agents: The slogan "If you lead, they will follow"
refers to agent incentives and increased commission
information.
CTO said it is considering a central Internet site where agents
can retrieve this information, but details are not yet worked
out.
The Caribbean region and CTO will have a large presence at the
rescheduled ASTA congress, Nov. 4 to 7 in New York, according to a
spokesman.
CTO's Board of Directors were set to meet Oct. 9 in the Bahamas
to discuss the tourism downswing following the terrorist attacks on
the U.S.
