Celebrity Cruises plans return to South America April 17, 2001 Share 1 -- MIAMI -- Celebrity Cruises' Mercury will return to South America next winter with three modified itineraries. On Dec. 9, Mercury departs Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for a 13-day Panama Canal voyage with visits to Oranjestad, Aruba; Manta, Ecuador; Callao (Lima), Peru, and Arica and Valparaiso, Chile.On Dec. 23 and March 3, Mercury will depart on 13-day Valparaiso-to-Rio de Janeiro cruises. The ship will call at Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas, Chile; Ushuaia, Puerto Madryn and Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Rio de Janeiro.On March 17, Mercury offers a 13-day cruise from Rio de Janeiro to La Guaira (Caracas), Venezuela. The ship also visits Santos, Buzios, Salvador, Porto Seguro and Ilhabela, Brazil; Buenos Aires, and Montevideo, Uruguay.Other itineraries include:Rio de Janeiro to Valparaiso, Jan. 6. Port calls include Buenos Aires, Puerto Madryn, Ushuaia and Puerto Montt. The reverse itinerary departs March 3.Valparaiso to Buenos Aires, Jan. 20. The ship visits Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas; Port Stanley, Falkland Islands; Puerto Madryn, and Montevideo. The reverse cruise sails Feb. 17.Carnaval in Rio de Janeiro, roundtrip from Buenos Aires, Feb. 3. The cruise stops at Montevideo and Santos before a three-day visit to Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval.
