Club Med Sandpiper showcases its makeover January 13, 1999 Share 1 -- PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Club Med Sandpiper is inviting visitors to check out its $5.7 million renovation completed last fall. The village was repainted in soft gray with accents of blue, turquoise, yellow and mustard on the staircases and elevators. All public areas and accommodations were redone. The main entrance was redesigned, and the reception area now has light-green Italian tiles, a green-granite counter, white wicker furniture, potted plants and flowers.The main bar was enlarged by some 1,000 square feet. The bar itself has a stone countertop and is covered with copper tiles. In late evening, the bar becomes a small theater and disco.Also upgraded were the separate wing housing the lobby, which leads to the main theater (700 seats), and several meeting rooms.Last year, the Sinners Golf Course reopened after a $650,000 renovation that included the replacement of all greens, new landscaping and a new irrigation system.This winter, Club Med Sandpiper is offering inclusive seven-night land packages, with optional air to West Palm Beach from Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington-Baltimore. Through April 10, land-only plans are priced from $1,029 per person (age 12 and older); from $749 for children 6 to 11; $609 for kids 2 to 3, and $196 for babies 4 to 23 months. These rates include the room and all meals and activities, except golf and transfers.The village has Baby, Petit and Mini Clubs for infants and older children as well as a Circus Workshop. The supervised Baby Club has air-conditioned rooms equipped with cribs and an indoor-outdoor play area; a Baby Dining Room with its own chef; a changing room, and a 24-hour convenience room that is stocked with bottle warmers, juices and milk. The facility operates 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., except Saturdays. Babies are fed breakfast and lunch, but parents take over for dinner.Clients who want to play golf are offered two club courses for a surcharge of $250 for seven days, including cart.
