Condo stays offer unique advantages to clients while often providing many of the same amenities as hotels, such as daily maid service and on-site restaurants.Families are among client groups that benefit from having more privacy than a hotel traditionally offers, and kitchens and sleeping quarters are separate from living areas.As time-sharing matures and becomes one of the fastest-growing segments of the leisure market, time-share developments continue to crop up throughout the islands. And most properties are eager to make their unsold units available for rental.The following is a rundown of some of the major players in the Hawaii time-share market.Aston Hotels & ResortsThis company provides 5,100-plus lodging units in 34 hotels and condo properties on Hawaii's five major islands.Its properties include:Hanalei Bay Resort, Kauai. Located on the north shore of Kauai in the Princeville Resort area, this was completely renovated in 1995.The resort offers one-, two- and three-bedroom units with complete kitchens, as well as rooms and studios. It has two pools, a sand-bottom whirlpool spa and eight tennis courts. A complimentary shuttle transports golfers to championship courses.Islander on the Beach, Kauai. Convenient to Lihue airport, the property's location beachside of Coconut Plantation Marketplace in Kapaa makes this a popular Kauai option.A 1992 renovation resulted in a plantation-style ambience and homelike comfort in 198 rooms and junior suites with kitchenettes. A gift and sundries shop, pool, pool bar and jet spa offer a mix of hotel amenities.Kauai Coast Resort, Kauai. This resort was recently renamed from Kauai Beachboy Hotel.A $10 million renovation, slated to be completed in 2001, will convert the oceanfront property on the Royal Coconut Coast in Kapaa into a condo resort.Recently completed are the swimming pool, kiddie pool and hydra spa. The hotel's 233 units are to be converted into about 100 one- and two-bedroom units.Kahana Reef, Maui. This 88-unit condo is close to several resort centers, including Lahaina, Kaanapali and Kapalua.Eight studios and 80 one-bedroom units offer oceanfront views and private lanais. Amenities include daily maid service and a pool. The property is near shopping and restaurants as well as golf courses and tennis courts.Marc Resorts HawaiiThis firm manages 20-plus properties on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, the Big Island and Molokai. It offers condo units ranging from studios with refrigerators to one-bedroom units with full kitchens.Its properties include:Embassy Vacation Resort-Poipu Point, Kauai. Marc is investing $3.9 million in improvements at this resort. Kitchen upgrades to some bedroom units will result in new cookware and appliances plus cosmetic improvements.Marc Suites Waikiki, Oahu. Currently undergoing a face-lift, this Waikiki property offers studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units with kitchenettes and private lanais.Waikiki Marc. Formerly the Kaulana Kai Hotel, this boutique property has been recently renovated.The Waikiki Marc, steps away from the International Market Place and King's Village, offers a new swimming pool with a whirlpool tub and sauna. Its rooms are studios with refrigerators and kitchenettes.Outrigger Hotels & ResortsOutrigger has seven condo properties on four islands, reflecting some 600 units. All condo properties offer daily maid service, activity desks, shops and restaurants.Its properties are:Kanaloa at Kona, Big Island of Hawaii. This property offers one- and two-bedroom units featuring a large, enclosed lanai. On site are three pools, three whirlpool spas, tennis courts and a restaurant.Kiahuna Plantation, Kauai. This beachfront property in the Poipu area is on a former sugar plantation. Its one- and two-bedroom units offer full kitchens and private lanais. On site are a pool, a swimming beach, tennis courts and two restaurants.Lae Nani, Kauai. Near the Lihue airport, Lae Nani features 82 one- and two-bedroom units.Amenities include an oceanfront pool and a lava-rock protected swimming area for kids.Maui Eldorado Resort, Maui. This resort offers studios as well as one- and two-bedroom units with full kitchens. Guests enjoy privileges at 19 tennis courts and have use of the fitness center at Maui Marriott Beach & Tennis/Fitness Center.Palms at Wailea, Maui. Situated on the Coconut Coast, this property offers one- and two-bedroom condos with full kitchens, private lanais and daily maid service.Whalers Cove, Kauai. This hideaway with oceanview one-bedroom units is hidden in one of Kauai's most beautiful coves in Poipu. Units are spacious, with Jacuzzi tubs in most. Amenities on site include an oceanfront pool, a spa and proximity to golf, tennis and restaurants.Kahana Sunset, Maui. This property's 79 condo units offer one- and two-bedroom layouts.
