SEATTLE -- Interest in the Klondike Gold Rush centennial helped
Holland America Line-Westours to achieve record passenger levels in
the season just ended, according to figures released by the
company.
The number of people carried reached new heights in both the
cruise (112,000) and tour (84,000) segments of Holland America's
operations. The multifaceted Seattle-based cruise-tour giant is
more involved in Canada's Klondike than any other operator. Three
of its six ships in Alaska service were in Inside Passage cruise
patterns this year and will be again in 1999. They are used in
conjunction with land tours through the Yukon and Alaska
interior.
The company's cruise-tour brochure lists 35 different 10- to
18-day itineraries.
Besides its fleet of cruise ships, Holland America Line-Westours
owns and operates 15 Westmark hotels and inns, 180 motorcoaches,
including 17 Alaska-Yukon Explorer articulated vehicles, 13
McKinley Explorer domed rail cars and two large day excursion
boats.
