Great Britain organizes millennium campaign March 04, 1999 Share 1 -- NEW YORK -- The British Tourist Authority launched a worldwide campaign called Britain, Now is the Time, to serve as the umbrella theme for Great Britain's millennium celebrations. Greenwich, England, located in south-east London, is situated on the Prime Meridian, and the BTA said there is "nowhere better to celebrate the new millennium than the place where time begins and where it is measured around the world." According to BTA chairman David Quarmby, "There are three aspects to our campaign: time and the importance to the world of Greenwich and Greenwich Mean Time; the Millennium Dome, now under construction in Greenwich, and the regeneration of Britain's cultural and environmental assets."The series of projects surrounding millennium celebrations are described in a BTA leaflet called Now is the Time. Agents can receive copies by calling the BTA at (800) 462-2748.
