Lanai visiting artist program slates literary, musical events March 16, 1999 Share 1 -- LANAI -- Lanai continues its visiting artist program, now in its eighth year, with an array of events and musical performances. The Lanai Co., operator of the Lodge at Koele and the Manele Bay Hotel, provides the events free to guests and the public. Creative Leisure International is the program's co-sponsor. The following lectures, performances and cooking classes, scheduled through September, will be held at one of the two properties. March 27; Jay McInerney, author of "Bright Lights, Big City" and "Model Behavior." April 10; Anne Lamott, author of "Bird by Bird" and the recently published "Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith." April 14: Ensemble Galilei, Celtic chamber music. May 1: Armistead Maupin, author of "Tales of the City." May 2: Hollywood producers David Wolper and Grant Tinker and actors James Woods, Thomas Gibson ("Dharma and Greg"), Scott Wolf ("Party of Five") and John O'Hurley ("Seinfeld"). May 22: A showing of "Damien," a recently restored film about Father Damien, made at Kalaupapa in the 1950s. June 10: Maui Chamber Music Festival Quartet. June 14: Bucky Pizzarelli, jazz guitarist. June 15: Scott Tenant, classical guitarist with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, performing with Adam del Monte, flamenco guitarist. June 19 and 20: Chef Alfred Portale of New York's Gotham Bar & Grill. July 10 and 11: Chef Gordon Hamersley of Hamersley's Bistro, Boston. July 12: Gaelic Storm (performed in the movie "Titanic"), Irish folk music. Aug.7: Paul Levine, author of the Jake Lassiter crime series. Aug. 21 and 22: Chef Thierry Rautureau, Rover's, Seattle. Sept. 4 and 5: Chef Jamie Shannon of Commander's Palace, New Orleans. Sept. 25. David Brown, producer of "Jaws," "A Few Good Men" and "Angela's Ashes," and Helen Gurley Brown of Cosmopolitan magazine.
