MexSeaSun sets multistop plans By Jorge Sidron / December 27, 2002 Share 1 -- MEXICO CITY -- MexSeaSun, the tour division of Mexicana Airlines, rolled out a program of "multistop" vacations combining popular beach destinations with colonial cities. Launched last month, the program features eight beach destinations and eight colonial cities, with a minimum requirement of two nights spent at each destination and a maximum of four stops per trip.In its first month, sales of the multistop vacations represented 25% of total bookings at MexSeaSun, with half of the business coming from travel agents, according to Luis Jaramillo, product manager for the Milwaukee-based company."Demand [for multidestination programs] from travel agents has been strong," Jaramillo said. "Agents tell us their customers love the beach but they also want to experience Mexico's cities. This product lets them do that."Despite the additional air fare component between destinations, Jaramillo said multistop tours cost only about 5% more than MexSeaSun's typical air-inclusive packages.PackagesMultistop vacation packages are available from all of Mexicana's U.S. gateways: Oakland, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco and San Jose, Calif.; Chicago; Denver; Miami; Newark; and San Antonio.A sample five-night package from Chicago starts at $782 per person, double, including air fare to Huatulco, three nights in Huatulco at the Hotel Castillo, air fare to Oaxaca, two nights in Oaxaca at the Fiesta Inn Oaxaca, roundtrip transfers at each destination and air fare to Chicago.A 10-night plan from Miami featuring stops in Cancun, Guadalajara and Mexico City costs from $1,199 per person, double.
