Miami resorts unveil array of outdoor activities By Henry Magenheim / January 18, 2002 Share 1 -- MIAMI -- Commissionable packages including such outdoor activities as golf, tennis, biking, fishing and inline skating are being offered by a number of Greater Miami hotels. Package highlights include the following:• The 300-room Sonesta Hotel & Suites Coconut Grove, which is scheduled to open April 1, will pay 15% commission on all room, suite and package bookings for stays during April and May.Introductory room rates start at $145, subject to availability.Starting in June, only the room portion of packages will be commissionable -- at a rate of 10%.Packages include the two-night Bed & Breakfast plan, priced between $312 and $402 for two and valid from April 1 to Dec. 21.The package covers a welcome cocktail, breakfast and the use of the resort's bikes.The three-night Family Fun plan, valid during the same period, is priced between $660 to $795 for two adults and two children.The package offers a welcome gift, breakfast, admission to the Miami Seaquarium or Museum of Science and an afternoon at the Key Biscayne property's beach club.The three-night Grove Fest plan, available from April 1 to Sept. 30, is priced at $375 to $435 for two and features a welcome gift, one day's use of the resort's bikes and a free fourth night.A two-night Memorial Day plan, valid May 23 to 27, is priced at $320 to $360 for two and includes a picnic lunch.The two-night Labor Day package, which also offers a picnic lunch, is availableAug. 23 to Sept. 3 and is priced from $320 to $360, double.To make reservations, call (800) SONESTA or visit Sonesta's Web site, at www.sonesta.com.• The Turnberry Isle Resort & Club in Aventura created the two-night Turnberry Tee Time plan, with rates of $339 per person, double, through April 27.Rates drop to $219 from April 28 to May 19 and to $139 from May 20 to Sept. 30.Included are a welcome cocktail, fruit delivery, daily breakfast buffet, 36 holes of golf with use of a cart, a golf clinic, a bucket of driving range balls, a golf gift bag, use of the health club (spa services are excluded), use of the private Ocean Club, local shuttle service and all taxes.The Turnberry pays 10%.
