More Resorts Set for Puerto Vallarta August 11, 1998 Share 1 -- PUERTO VALLARTA--A handful of major developments taking shape in this Pacific Coast resort will bring new property options into the lineup in 1999. At least three projects are under construction: a Four Seasons resort, a Viva Resorts property and a Velas Vallarta resort.The first property expected to open will be Four Seasons Punta Mita, set to debut early next year. The 100-room luxury resort will be situated at the tip of the Punta de Mita peninsula, approximately 40 minutes by car from Puerto Vallarta's airport. The long stretch of land is bordered by Banderas Bay and the ocean, and is home to small fishing towns, casual Mexican eateries and a few budget hotels.Four Seasons Punta Mita will be a low-rise property designed to blend with the natural environment and the architectural style of the region. The property will feature 79 guest rooms and 21 suites, housed in tile-roofed, Mexican-style casitas of one, two and three stories.One of the recreational highlights of the property will be a Jack Nicklaus-designed championship golf course. The 18-hole course will feature seven holes along the ocean, and offer an ocean-side club house. The golf course is expected to open to the public before the end of 1998.Other recreational options will include a tennis center with four courts, a swimming pool and whirlpool, watersports and a nature center offering programs that spotlight the whales, dolphins and sea turtles of the area. Work currently is under way on Club Viva Vallarta, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 1999.The four-star resort will be situated on 15 acres of land in the Costa Banderas development of Nuevo Vallarta, located 20 miles from downtown Puerto Vallarta. The new hotel will be an upscale oceanfront property located in the master-planned resort complex of Nuevo Vallarta.Tentatively called Velas Vallarta II, the property will feature 360 suites.
