Mountain Travel Symposium set for Vail March 05, 1999 Share 1 -- IRVINE, Calif. -- The 24th Mountain Travel Symposium '99 will be hosted by Vail Resorts in Vail, Colo., April 12 to 18. The event will bring together representatives from mountain resorts, lodging facilities, resort associations, tour operators, airlines, ground transportation and other service providers under one roof.Mountain Travel Symposium is a major event for mountain destination resorts in the U.S. and Canada including domestic and international tour operators and major ski councils and clubs.The educational track will be held from April 14 to 16 with a series of general sessions and workshops targeted on problem solving. Keynote speakers include Adam Aron, chairman and chief executive officer of Vail Resorts, and Rick Barrera, an author and peak performance expert, as well as speakers from Microsoft and Yahoo. Cahners Travel Group, parent company of Travel Weekly, is sponsoring Barrera's program.New to this year's symposium is a workshop detailing promotional opportunities through the media. Other topics include strategies and tactics for dealing with technology; sales and marketing; distribution; air transportation, and staying ahead of the competition.The Trade Exchange, held April 12 to 14, focuses on the tour product side of ski travel. The Exchange matches tour operators with ski resorts, lodging properties and transportation representatives to arrange contracts and tour package relationships.The Group Exchange, held April 16, will match resort and tour operator representatives with ski club and council representatives to facilitate bookings for the season ahead.
